Let’s Talk About Rotini!
Did you know there are over 350 different pasta shapes around the world?
And yet I always seem to default to rotini for my pasta salads.
For good reason! Look at those tightly wound, plump spirals just waiting to drink up the dressing!
The name rotini means “little twists” in Italian, which makes sense. And unlike straight or smooth pasta, rotini’s curves help it catch whatever dressing or sauce it’s tossed in, making every bite extra tasty.
The most common rotini is made from durum wheat and it’s sold in plain or in whole wheat varieties.
Then there’s high-fiber rotini with inulin added.
Plus, I’m sure you’re familiar with tri-color rotini, with a touch of spinach and tomato creating those green and red noodles.
And if that’s not enough choice, check out high-protein chickpea rotini, brown rice rotini and even sourdough rotini.
The seemingly limitless and sometimes overwhelming selection in the noodle aisle seems impastable!
And yet, here I am with another box of good ol’ trusty, curvy rotini, short and springy, small but mighty, the overachiever of the pasta world.
Keeping calm and noodling on.
