Homemade Taco Seasoning
Back in 1983 when Bonnie Tyler first belted out the lyrics “Every now and then I fall apart,” I was SURE she was talking about tacos. It’s one of the reasons I prefer the deliciousness of tacos in salad form.
Wanna know what really makes ground beef sing? Taco seasoning.
If you’ve curated a well-stocked spice rack (a healthy cook’s best friend, in my opinion), it’s super-easy to make your own seasoning. Whip this up in minutes, store it in a spice jar with lid and label it “Taco Magic.”
4 tbsp chili powder
1½ tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp sugar
and 1½ tsp EACH of the following:
Seasoning salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Garlic powder and
Ground coriander
No unnecessary fillers, no mystery ingredients—just real spices, blended exactly how you like.
Want more smokiness? Add smoked paprika. Some heat? Bring on the cayenne. And if you’re watching your sodium? You get to decide how much goes in.
That being said, I’ve tasted some pretty good packaged taco seasonings! If you’re pressed time, they’re a quick, reliable shortcut.
Whether store-bought or homemade, when the spice is right, you’ll love every bite!
